What a night………WE WON!

Last night was the 2015 Lux Awards, honouring the world’s best lighting manufacturers, the boldest clients, coolest technologies and most amazing installations. We were there among almost 1,000 of our peers at the fantastic event at the Troxy theatre, East London.

Our Kontakt system had been shortlisted from over 200 nominations by Lux’s judging panel, it was then put to the test and projects using the system were visited to see it in action. This rigorous judging process is the reason why the Lux award is becoming one of the most prestigious trophies of the lighting industry.

The awards were a night to remember, but most importantly, we won!

We walked away with Interior Luminaire product of the year for our Kontakt system.

It’s fair to say we are over the moon about the winning this award, it was great to hear the panel’s thoughts on our system:

“A product that the judges felt showed that the creators had put a lot of thought into creating an elegant solution that solves real problems in retail and that challenges the notion of what a luminaire is in an integrated world.”

The Kontakt system is an illuminated shelving system, but that’s not the clever part! Across retail there are many shelving systems which can incorporate movement and lighting, but the ones that move don’t allow for lighting because of the cabling and connections. The Kontakt system solves this problem, there are no wires or connectors, shelves illuminate when put into place.

Kontakt makes it look easy, the shelf locates into wall channels and integrated LED luminaires instantly respond. However, despite its joyful ease of use, Kontakt is the culmination of some creative electrical engineering and lighting ingenuity

The system was developed to realise River Island’s brand vision. We had been working with River Island supplying lightboxes for many of their stores throughout the UK; however for their new Gateshead concept store they wanted something a little different. Working with River Island from the very start of the design process and creating prototypes before the final concept was created. The new system was manufactured in-house by creating new components and connectors. The system has since been rolled out into River Island’s new Bullring flagship store and their newly renovated Trafford Centre store.

We’d like to say a big thank you to Lux and their judging panel, we’d also like to thank everyone at River Island as we feel this was a team effort and they deserve the praise!

Big thanks to everybody involved.
