Custom shelving solution for Kurt Geiger’s concept stores
UK-based shoe and accessory retailer Kurt Geiger has undertaken a comprehensive roll out of a new retail store concept.
Having collaborated previously on a full-service project for Kurt Geiger's store design manager, because of the success of our existing relationship, and our expertise in both graphic display and LED illumination, Unibox was the only choice to develop this innovative new concept store.
Up against a very tight deadline, and some difficult technical challenges, we were sent a brief, which incorporated rendered visuals and a rough store layout. Having reviewed the project, we were confident we could meet the client’s expectations in terms of end product and timescales.
We prototyped all of the various elements needed, including custom extrusion manufacture, bending/rolling, and LED illumination. We partnered with Kurt Geiger throughout this process to make sure they were happy, and the project remained on track.
Once approved, the end solution was constructed and delivered on time and within budget. With the shelving assembled in an entirely bespoke way, we also worked closely with the shop fitting team to confirm they had everything they needed to ensure an easy installation.
The Unibox solution included: 3D CAD renderings, prototyping, custom extrusion manufacture, LED illumination and installation support.
Unibox delivered Kurt Geiger’s new store design concept: based on creating a ‘Forest’ of illuminated shelves.
The philosophy behind the lighting solution was to a maintain a focus on the merchandise while creating contrast between the vertical surfaces, display tables and circulation zone. As such, variations in light level were central to bringing this concept to life.
The end result was a bespoke, custom shelving solution for Kurt Geiger’s concept stores.
Each shelving system was suspended from a chrome finished pole, featuring two to three illuminated platforms from which the shoes were displayed. These were installed at various heights to create a single focal point for the store.
Each shelf contained completely custom elements, from an acrylic diffuser on the outside, to a light guide plate housed in an inner chassis, encased in a larger chrome outer chassis, for structural stability and aesthetic value.
